Responsible Tourism in Kouvola
The sunny summer of 2018 was ideal for seeing the attractions of Kouvola by bike, so we rented out pink Jopo bicycles from the reception and gave our guests route recommendations that took them to Kouvola's parks, beach, flea markets and the Ruukki area in Kuusankoski, for instance. Leftover bread from breakfast was sent to Vito, a horse who had retired from harness racing, and its friends in the nearby stables for the whole year.
At the end of the year, we delighted our guests with Roosa ribbons and, together with Kymenlaakson Syöpäyhdistys, delivered chocolate bars to patients spending their Christmas at the cancer care units of Kymenlaakso central hospital as part of the "Pieni pala jaksamista" chocolate campaign.
This year, we gave a Christmas present to low-income families with children together with Tykkimäen Vapaa-aikakeskus through HOPE ry.
The year 2019 began eventfully when new recycling bins were installed in all of the hotel's accommodation facilities making it easier for visitors to sort their waste for our staff to put in the appropriate containers.
Children in Kouvola love Onni the Squirrel and Onni the Squirrel loves children. In fact, Onni the Squirrel has already delighted the area's children a couple of times at the beginning of the year. International Day of Happiness 20 March Onni the Squirrel visited a day care centre to deliver extra arts and crafts supplies from the hotel. During the skiing holiday, Onni the Squirrel opened Vaakuna Sali's doors to all children in the neighbourhood for Onni's name day disco.
The year 2019 has begun nicely, and we will continue to create new ideas together and foster our good traditions. We are also always welcome ideas from our guests!
