Original Sokos Hotel Helsinki to close during renovations
Customer bulletin 23.11.2020
Original Sokos Hotel Helsinki to close during renovations. The new hotel, which opens in 2022, will present Helsinki piece by piece.
Original Sokos Hotel Helsinki, exuding Helsinki's urban atmosphere since 1930, will close due to renovations as of 30 November 2020. During the one-and-a-half-year renovation, all hotel rooms, the rooftop sauna and the building's lobby and restaurant facilities will be renovated.
Opening in the summer of 2022, the completely renovated Hotel Helsinki will serve as an elegant tribute to Helsinki and its iconic details. Design agency KOKO3 is responsible for the interior design of the accommodation facilities and Promakers for the design of the restaurant facilities. The hotel is operated by Sokotel Oy and the property is owned by investment company Exilion.
"We have had a long-term successful partnership with Sokotel, as Exilion has owned the property since 2008. The building has a long history and now we want to upgrade it together, in order to meet the demands of the future. At the same time, we will also invest in making the building energy and environmentally friendly," says Investment Manager Jussi Ojamo from Exilion.
Hotel Helsinki's almost 100-year-old history has always been an integral part of the history and people of Helsinki. "The interior design is inspired by the lovely city of Helsinki and its numerous iconic details, such as the city's gilded domes and the monumental lantern bearers at the railway station. The new hotel will have you fall in love with Helsinki piece by piece – through surprising details. And to top it off, all the treasures presented by the hotel are located a stone's throw away," interior designer Aino Brandt from KOKO3 explains. "Hotel Helsinki's new era will offer guests a completely unique hotel experience," Brandt promises.
In the future, the restaurants will form an integral part of the hotel lobby. The lively milieu and relaxed food and beverage menus will appeal to both hotel and Helsinki residents.
"The hotel milieu provides a great framework for social encounters. Our splendid business location, in the most interesting corner of the city, will be turned into a bold and lively restaurant. We strongly believe in the power of the immediate city center," says Jarkko Härmälä, Managing Director, Sokotel Oy. "The city center is the best place for face-to-face encounters, whether it's an everyday event or a festive function, a private dinner or a business meeting. Our task is to create an interesting framework for these encounters."
During the closure of Original Sokos Hotel Helsinki, accommodation in central Helsinki will be offered by Original Sokos Hotel Presidentti, which features Finnish phenomena, the functional classic Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna, and the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Kamppi, which has just been selected the leading business hotel in Finland.
