Spa hotel Bomba to receive an extension and go through renovations
Spa hotel Bomba in North Karelia to receive extension and update.
A completely new hotel wing will open in 2024, and the Karelian village rooms will be renewed in time for summer 2023.
The much awaited extension of Break Sokos Hotel Bomba in Nurmes, adding lake view rooms, will begin in the spring. The extension of the current spa hotel, to be completed in the summer of 2024, will be located in the coastal landscape of Lake Pielinen. The Karelian village rooms in Bomba's log houses will also undergo renovation. The North Karelia Cooperative Society is investing 21.2 million euros in the development of Break Sokos Hotel Bomba and 550,000 euros in the renovation of the Karelian village rooms.
"We are relieved and happy to finally be able to start the extension of the hotel. The plan is legally valid and construction work will begin in April," General Manager Sanna Tenhunen says cheerfully. "Tourism in the Bomba region has developed well in recent years and needs, even with the current demand, additional accommodation and restaurants. With the extension, our number of rooms will double to 201."
The new hotel wing will have five floors and a total of 92 rooms featuring natural colours and materials, as well as meeting rooms and a restaurant. The hotel rooms will have large scenic windows with great views of Lake Pielinen's ever-changing lake landscape. The rooms on the top floor also have private balconies.
Break Sokos Hotel Bomba is located on the shore of Lake Pielinen, in the immediate vicinity of the traditional Karelian village of Bomba and Bomba House. The log row houses in the village have 50 hotel rooms that will be renovated during spring 2023. The bathrooms will be renovated and the rooms will receive new beds and air conditioning. The rooms of the Karelian village can also be booked through the booking channels of Sokos Hotels.
Versatile and experiential Bomba keeps fascinating travellers
The proximity to nature, the traditional culture of the Karelian village and the luxurious spa with its outdoor pool contribute to making Break Sokos Hotel Bomba a unique experience. Guests have access to as many as three national parks within an hour's drive, and can take part in activities ranging from Karelian pie workshops to fishing trips, all in the vicinity of the hotel.
"Today's travellers are eager to learn about local culture and long for authentic experiences. Nature and wellness destinations are of interest, and there is an increasing demand for luxurious hotel stays. The Bomba area with its spa hotels caters to these needs. Break Sokos Hotel Bomba is suitable for couples looking for a bit of pampering, families and groups alike," says General Manager Tenhunen.
The development of Break Sokos Hotel Bomba supports the North Karelia Cooperative Society's tourism strategy, according to which it will create a tourist destination similar to Lapland in the Bomba-Koli-Joensuu area, and double the number of overnight stays in the area by 2030. The North Karelia Cooperative Society will also develop its tourism services in Koli, where a new hotel, Break Sokos Hotel Koli Kylä, will open in Koli by Midsummer 2023.
