Coming in 2024, a completely renewed, sunny and energetic Royal!
Original Sokos Hotel Royal Vaasa will be completely modernised over 2023–2025. You can expect sunny, energising and colourful spaces in the heart of the Nordic energy capital. The project will be implemented in stages. The modernisation of the Torni building is now underway, and it will be completed in February 2024. Part of the hotel will be open throughout the modernisation project.
"We are making the new Original Sokos Hotel Royal Vaasa the most memorable and high-quality hotel complex on the west coast while following the principles of sustainable development. We have the ambitious goal of being the most energy-efficient hotel in Finland," says Max Hellqvist, who started as hotel director at the beginning of the year .
"The use of geothermal energy, our own solar power plant, energy recovery from wastewater and numerous innovations promoting energy efficiency are in line with the goals of Vaasa, the Nordic energy capital," says Hellqvist.
In addition to energy efficiency, the hotel's modernisation focuses on visually impressive social spaces and energising hotel rooms. The hotel's most amazing features will include a stylish sauna section on the top floor offering a view of Vaasa, an entire floor for events and the bright Atrium lobby.
Boldly colourful interior
Helsinki-based design agency KOKO3 is responsible for the project's interior design.
"The starting point of our design is the hotel's identity, which in turn stems from the identity of Vaasa as the sunniest city in Finland and the Nordic energy capital. We will bring colour, joy, light, energy and motion to the new Royal," promises Aino Brandt, interior architect and partner at KOKO3.
Different colours of the sun's spectrum like bright yellow and blue are used boldly in the decoration of the hotel rooms. The cartoon-like illustrations on the interior textiles depicting bicycles and wind turbines also reflect the identity of the energy capital.
An entire event floor around the market-like Atrium lobby
The new Royal's event facilities are all on one floor. Located next to the atrium-style lobby, the energetic event floor's restaurants and event spaces offer a high-quality setting for organising various types of events, from small gala dinners to cocktail events for up to 1,000 people. Because the event spaces and restaurants are all on the same floor with multiple entrances, the events are guaranteed to flow smoothly.
Modernisation carried out in stages
The modernisation work will be carried out in stages, and part of the hotel will be open throughout the modernisation. The hotel's Torni building will be completed in February 2024, after which the renovation of the Central building will begin. The entire project will be completed in 2025.
