
The History of Wiklund
Today, Original Sokos Hotel Wiklund is a part of a comfortable, all-inclusive centre of living.
1895 - Ironmonger Axel Wiklund establishes his first store on a corner of Turku Market Square.
1907 - The store expands and takes over the next building along Kauppiaskatu.
1957 - Turku is quickly becoming more modern and the first department store, Oy Wiklund Ab, is built on Kauppiaskatu, next to the Market Square.
1958 - SOK, the Finnish federation of cooperative societies, purchases the business operations of Oy Wiklund Ab from the Wiklund estate. The cooperative continues the notable development project of the Wiklund block.
1961 - The construction of Wiklund's corner and its iconic tower house starts.
1963 - ‘Wikke's corner' receives its modern form when the expanded department store is opened to customers. In addition to the department store, the building also housed the headquarters of Turku Cooperative Society.
The department store's selection is unforeseen. The ground floor features household goods and an ironmongers. The grocery department, as well as the paper, book and men's clothing and accessory departments, were located at the street level. The second floor offers women's and children's clothing departments, shoes and home textiles. It also has a customer café. The third floor features outdoor clothes, toys and sports equipment.
1986 - Sokos Hotel City Börs opens and Wiklund Herkku is renovated.
2006 - Turun Osuuskauppa buys the business operations of Turun Sokos Oy and the Sokos Wiklund building from SOK.
2007 - the development project of the Wiklund block and the expansion project of Sokos Wiklund start.
The Sokos department store is expanded and renovated and, at the same time, the hotel rooms of the Sokos Hotel City Börs operating in the same premises are renewed. The services of the grocery store and restaurant in connection to the department store are also renewed and expanded.
2008 - The renewed S-Market Wiklund Herkku is opened to customers.
With the renewal, both the store's surface area and its selection nearly double in size.
2008 - Sokos Wiklund's topping-out ceremony.
The purchase of the Wiklund building from SOK in 2006 and its following renovations is Turku Cooperative Society's largest individual investment thus far.
2011 - Sokos Wiklund's renovations are completed.
Café-restaurant W wine & deli, W Take Away point, W Tori focusing on local and organic food and the spa centre W Hyvä Olo can all be found under this same roof, without forgetting the more traditional department store offerings.
2018 Turku Cooperative Society starts the complete renovation project of Wiklund.
Thanks to the new restaurant, hotel and entertainment activities, Wiklund will become a versatile centre of enjoyment in the Turku city centre.
2019 The completely renewed Wiklund will be opened during the spring.

Walo Rooftop Bar, above the roofs of Turku, is the city's first rooftop bar.
Walo Rooftop bar is the crown jewel of Wiklund. The bar, located on two top floors of the building, is open all year round and has an amazing view out over the city.
The completely renewed Original Sokos Hotel Wiklund provides the hotel services, creating the environment for a unique, holistic hotel experience. The hotel was opened at the beginning of March.
The fully renewed and inspiring meeting facilities are located on the third floor and the versatile event venues complement the area.
The customers can also enjoy the Hyvä Olo and Hyvä Olo Express spa services, as well as the offerings and services of S-market Wiklund Herkku store.
