RESPONSIBILITY IS INTEGRAL TO ORIGINAL SOKOS HOTEL KUPITTAA EVERY DAY
At Sokos Hotel Kupittaa, we support responsible tourism and the wellbeing of the environment and people. Our hotel has the Green Key environmental certificate and theSustainable Travel Finland label.
Hotel guests can contribute to our responsibility efforts by sorting waste properly in their rooms, avoiding unnecessary energy consumption, using the same towel more than once, and by taking only as much food on their plate as they can eat, for example.
One of our major sustainability efforts is to avoid unnecessary use of paper at the hotel. For example, all the information about hotel services can be found on tablets in the rooms. Guests also have the option of completing the travel declaration, which is conventionally handed in on paper, electronically using a self-service machine or the Sokoshotels app.
In products and consumables, we favour recycled materials and avoid single-use plastics, both in the hotel and the restaurant. The hotel buys its electricity from S-Voima, and 69% of it is generated by our own wind power. The electricity is produced from 100% renewable energy sources.
We are strongly committed to supporting our local area. At breakfast we serve plenty of local produce, including Riihipuoti organic porridge and Lindroth salads from Saramäki, Turku. The deli sells products from Kulman Keittiö, Turku Cooperative Society's own kitchen. It uses first-class products from local suppliers, and the products are always packed in environmentally friendly packaging. At the hotel, we use the equipment of Plantui, a Turku-based company, to grow our own herbs and flowers, which are also used in our dishes daily.
There are QR codes on the walls of the rooms that allow guests to discover the cultural and sporting opportunities in the surrounding area. For transport, we prefer Turku's local public transport, Föli and the train, both with timetable displays in the hotel lobby and on tablets. You can also easily grab an electric scooter in front of the hotel or a Föli city bike from the next block. Our car park has four charging points for electric cars.
The DROPP water sold at the Deli protects our Baltic Sea. DROPP is a social enterprise that donates its profits to the protection of the Baltic Sea. It has already donated €100,000 of its profits to the cause. The hotel also has its own charity, Sylva Ry, which supports children with cancer in Finland.
We will take good care of you and nature – welcome to Turku.
