RENOVATIONS AT HOTEL VAAKUNA IN KOUVOLA IN 2020
In 2019, the Kymi Region Cooperative Society launched a major renovation project at Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Kouvola, which is more than 30 years old. The whole project will be completed by February 2021, at which time we will be able to open all the renovated premises to the public.
We have been able to serve our customers nearly normally during the renovation work. The last renovation stage is now underway in one wing of the hotel, which is not in use during the work. This way, we can minimise the inconvenience to our customers at the final stage of the project.
The outside appearance of the hotel will not be changed during the renovation, and the pink colour of the exterior wall will continue to delight our guests. After all, it alone makes us the most lovable hotel Finland!
With the renovation project, the restaurants located at the street level were combined into the French-style Frans & Rose bistro. The restaurant is now the heart of the downstairs of our hotel in terms of its atmosphere and freshness.
The renewal of hotel rooms has drawn inspiration from the local area, and the themes focus on the northern Kymenlaakso region. The chosen themes are Pentik, Repovesi and Tykkimäki.
The theme of the PENTIK room is homage to Anu Pentik, a designer from Kuusankoski. The Pioni design with large patterns chosen for the walls, the harmonious and soft colour scheme and the cosy furniture create a pleasant Pentik feel in the room. Natural materials create a peaceful atmosphere in the room. In the bathroom, the Pentik feel is created not only by the furniture but also by the great-looking pink wall tiles and the concrete theme used as a contrast to them. The overall concrete look visible throughout the hotel is, in fact, characteristic of Kouvola. The architecture of Kouvola is famous and, some might say, infamous for its use of concrete.
In the REPOVESI room, nature has been brought right into the room. In this room, guests can easily imagine themselves in a natural park, trekking and enjoying the great scenery. A magnificent Repovesi scenery covering the whole wall is displayed on a side wall of the room. Wood has been used as a material in the furniture to increase the vicinity to nature. The theme continues in the bathroom, with the watery green wall tiles taking guests to the Repovesi atmosphere.
In the TYKKIMÄKI room, guests are welcomed by the silhouette of the Endeavour ride from the Tykkimäki amusement park on the wall. The yellow and lilac colours of the amusement ride have been incorporated in the furniture and materials; otherwise, the room is kept peaceful and atmospheric. The large armchair offers a nice place to sit down and rest after a long travelling day. The Endeavour-yellow wall tiles in the bathroom greet the sleepy travellers in the morning, cheering them up and raising a smile.
During the renovation project, the gym and all the meeting and sauna facilities have also received a new, nuanced look that emphasises the local colour. Read more about the renovation of the meeting facilities HERE.
We are expecting you here at Finland's most lovable, now renovated hotel!
