New stores and restaurants open in Telliskivi Creative City in Tallinn
The biggest creative centre in Estonia, Telliskivi stands out not only for its small-scale designer stores and cafés, but also for the NPO Mondo, situated in the yellow building opposite Fotografiska.
Mondo develops and sells handicrafts from partner communities in Ghana, Uganda, Syria and Afghanistan in order to support women and people with special needs. Mondo's customers are those who are looking to purchase products with a story behind them. To such customers it is important that the items are bought directly from the people who made them, and in Mondo's case the company often knows these craftspeople by name. With every purchase they are helping to give these artists and their families a better life in their own countries.
Whether it is the colourful baskets and unrefined shea butter from Ghana, the textiles and weaving from Uganda, the embroidery from Afghanistan, the earrings made by Syrian refugees or any of the other exciting products on offer that catches your eye, the store is sure to have something for you. The Mondo world education and training centre is open from 12:00-17:00 Monday-Thursday at Telliskivi 60A, opposite Fotografiska and the Vaba Lava theatre.
In addition to Mondo, we also recommend visiting the newly opened Fotografiska. This internationally renowned centre for photographic art started out in Stockholm before expanding to New York and London, and now also has a base in Tallinn. And while you're in Telliskivi, be sure to pop in to the pop-up stores and restaurants and admire the street art.
