Koli Kylä's restaurants focus on locality
The cozy restaurant Tervaskanto located in the new village hotel in Koli, with its terraces, offers guests delicious and straightforward local food in a natural setting. In the Puronmutka café, visitors can enjoy freshly baked pastries and quality drinks. Handmade picnic food can also be purchased from the restaurants to take away: Koli's ancient nature provides unforgettable places to enjoy your takeaway treats.
Tervaskanto serves delicacies with a local twist
Restaurant Tervaskanto's menu focuses on generous portions suitable for hikers, uncomplicated flavors, and ingredients from local producers. The restaurant offers pasta, grilled dishes, burgers, and pizza – all with a North Karelian twist. Restaurant Manager Sanna Summala mentions the house specialties: the hunter's cutlet, the house cutlet, and the chicken cutlet. "These will satisfy the appetites of even the hikers who have taken longer routes," Summala promises.
"And our burgers are really good. The ground beef for the burger patty comes from Haukiniemi Farm in Polvijärvi, where happy Limousin cattle are raised. We bake the burger buns ourselves in our own kitchen," Summala explains.
The starter menu at Tervaskanto includes breads, house pies, and a tasting platter featuring mushroom salad, sausages from Polvijärvi's meat shop, and lake fish mousse from Pielisen Kalajaloste. There is also a separate menu for children.
Jean and Aino would also enjoy these menus
The pre-set menus at Restaurant Tervaskanto are a delicious choice for a more elaborate dining experience. The three-course Kuusama and Matara menus cost a reasonable 33 euros with an S-Etukortti card and can be ordered on-site.
Both the village hotel and the Break Sokos Hotel Koli's Grill It! scenic restaurant offer Jean and Aino menus, taking you back to the atmosphere of Aino and Jean Sibelius' honeymoon in Koli in 1909. The Sibelius menus are ordered in advance and are perfect for special occasions and post-meeting dinners.
The Aino menu starts with perch ceviche, followed by reindeer roast with parsnip puree as the main course, and cloudberry crème brûlée for dessert. Jean indulges in a five-course culinary experience. The dinner begins with reindeer carpaccio and spruce mayo, continues with jumbo crayfish tails and sugar-salted salmon, moves on to reindeer, and ends with blueberry-white chocolate mousse. Wine pairings have been designed specifically for the menus.
Puronmutka is a place to go straight from the nature trail or a place to spend the evening
Puronmutka café serves as a relaxed café for hikers and as the hotel lobby bar. It offers salads, savory coffee pastries, Karelian pies, toasts, and delightful, sweet treats. The pastries are baked by local bakeries, Porokylän Leipomo and Pielispakari, in addition to our own chefs. The display also features a wide selection of curds and smoothies.
The Puronmutka bar serves high-quality drink mixes, including cocktails mixed with gin from the Koli Distillery.
Picnic time is the most important part of the trip
It's easy to grab picnic snacks from Puronmutka café and take them along to the hiking trails in the national park. Would you like a campfire sausage, a hearty sandwich, or the beloved Karelian pastries from Kotileipomo Sorsa?
You can customize your picnic snacks according to your own taste or purchase a ready-made package that includes a drink and a piece of fruit. The Polar Adventures program service office, located at Break Sokos Hotel Koli Kylä, also rents hiking equipment.
The village hotel has its own distillery
The internationally acclaimed distillery, The Helsinki Distilling Company, will start operating in the premises of Koli Village Hotel in the summer of 2023.
