Alexandra's themed rooms showcase the history of Central Finland

Petäjävesi Old Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the pride of Central Finland

In our themed rooms, you can study one of the best-known landmarks in Central Finland and its most valuable historical building, the Petäjävesi Old Church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As a World Heritage Site, the church represents Nordic wooden church architecture and the traditions of log building. The wooden cruciform church is the best preserved and most representative example of the style in Finland. With its precise woodwork joints, the church is also a masterpiece of Finnish rustic architecture.

The Petäjävesi Old Church was built into its current form in 1821, at which time the belfry was connected to the actual church with a corridor made from plank wood. The result is an architecturally perfect and aesthetically pleasing building which attracts tourists from 50 countries to Central Finland every year.

The Petäjävesi Old Church is located a little less than a thirty-minute ride west of Jyväskylä, right alongside main road 23, on a beautiful isthmus between Jämsänvesi and Petäjävesi lakes. There are good guide signs to the parking lot of the church from the main road.

In the summertime, the World Heritage Site is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm.
