Things to do in Lappeenranta
A springtime walk in the Fortress is an experience
A Warm Welcome to Lappeenranta!
In our opinion, Lappeenranta is at its most delightful in spring, when the sun already brings its warmth and the surrounding nature slowly awakens to new life.
A visit to the Lappeenranta Fortress is a true experience! The Fortress feels like its own little world, where history and the present day walk hand in hand. The cobbled paths, small boutiques, and cafés create the perfect atmosphere for an interesting day trip.
For café experiences, we especially recommend the charmingly historical Café Majurska and the modern-retro Satamatie 6. And if you’re in the mood for a terrace, Kehruuhuone will be opening theirs soon. Kehruuhuone also serves what may be one of the best weekday lunches in town.
Lappeenranta offers a diverse selection of museums. There are even three of them in the Fortress area. You can purchase a combined ticket to these museums from our reception.
All year round at the Market Square and later in spring also at the Harbour the locals enjoy the simple pleasures of life in true Lappeenranta style. Try a “Vety” or “Atomi”! Yes, these really are the names of delicious local filled meat pies. You truly can’t say you’ve visited Lappeenranta without tasting this local treasure.
This coming summer, Finland’s largest Sandcastle will once again be built at the harbour, opening on June 6, 2026. This year’s theme is “Living Sculptures.”
From the Sandcastle area, you can also hop on a one hour city sightseeing tour. The tour ends back at the Sandcastle, where we recommend dropping by the Fazer delicacy shop right next door. Candy by the kilo or healthy breakfast products; here you’ll find both.
If you have an access to a car, we warmly recommend a day trip to the charming Pulsan Asema. It was awarded Finland’s Travel Destination of the Year 2025 at the Finnish Travel Gala – and for a good reason! Their uniquely lovely café, enchanting surroundings, and small interior design shop filled with wonderful finds will win your heart. Visit once, and you’ll surely return!
Another destination we love to recommend is one of Finland’s Seven Travel Wonders: Lemin Särä at Restaurant Kippurasarvi.
Start your summer early and come enjoy the springtime in Lappeenranta!
