Grand Christmas Opening

The traditional Grand Christmas Opening Day is celebrated in Turku on Saturday, 28 November 2026.

The program includes a grand Christmas parade, as well as the lighting of the nation's number one Christmas tree and the sparkling Christmas lights across the city center area.

Christmas at the Old Great Square

Christmas at the Old Great Square brings the scents and atmosphere of Christmas to the Old Great Square on four Advent weekends: 28–29 November, 5–6 December, 12–13 December and 19–20 December 2026, from 11 am to 5 pm.

This traditional Christmas event offers plenty to see and experience for the whole family. The market sells, among other things, beautiful handicrafts and traditional Christmas treats, and there are also music, theater and circus performances.

Path of Light

The Path of Light is an extensive light art installation produced by the City of Turku, consisting of a large light event and seasonal lighting displays that remain on show during the darkest winter season. The Path of Light takes place on 3–6 December in the Old Town area and around the Aura River.

Declaration of Christmas Peace

The Declaration of Christmas Peace is a tradition that ushers in the Christmas celebrations and declares Christmas to have begun. Christmas Peace is traditionally declared from the balcony of the Brinkkala House on Christmas Eve at 12 noon in Finnish and Swedish.
