Green Key Certificate

Original Sokos Hotel Lakeus has been awarded the Green Key certificate. A company that receives the Green Key certificate commits to continuous development of its operations in accordance with the certificate's criteria. The certificate is based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and its requirements exceed the basic level of laws and regulations. Maintaining it requires continuous development of operations and annual reporting.

Green Key criteria relate to the following areas, among others:

• Energy and water consumption
• Waste sorting and recycling
• Daily use of eco-labeled cleaning products as well as tissue and office paper
• Reducing food waste

Sustainable Travel Finland Label

We have been granted the right to use the Sustainable Travel Finland label as recognition of valuable and long-term work for sustainable tourism.

Sustainable Travel Finland is a national sustainable tourism program administered by Visit Finland, which takes into account ecological, sociocultural, and economic sustainability. Companies that receive the label meet criteria based on these values.

We have completed the seven-step sustainable tourism development path, with each step having criteria based on international standards. Sustainable tourism measures don't come together all at once, but rather it's a development path. The STF label is renewed regularly so we can report on our continuous development. The STF program and its criteria are also updated at regular intervals.

This is how sustainability work shows in our hotel's daily operations:

• We sort waste carefully and efficiently – items suitable for reuse are directed to recycling
• We pay attention to water consumption both in the kitchen and in the rooms
• We use eco-labeled cleaning products for cleaning
• We mainly use LED lighting
• We offer customers the opportunity to borrow bicycles from the hotel
• Our restaurant offers local and organic food as well as vegetarian options
• Every room has tips for saving water and energy during your stay
• We advise guests on local outdoor and hiking destinations

Here's how you can help the environment too:

• Turn off the shower when applying shampoo or soap
• Use a tooth mug when brushing your teeth
• Leave your towel on the rack and use it again
• Turn off unnecessary lights. Remember to take your key card with you when leaving the room, this way all the lights in the room will turn off
• Choose local, organic, and vegetarian food at breakfast
• Even though the breakfast table is full of treats, only take as much on your plate as you can eat. You can always get more if you're still hungry!
• Please sort your waste. The bottles, papers, and glass you leave on the table in your room will be sorted by housekeeping
• Explore Seinäjoki's attractions by bike or on foot. Ask the hotel about bus schedules and other public transport
