Koli Enchanted Forest -trail

The interactive nature trail designed for children is located right next to Break Sokos Hotel Koli Kylä.

The nature trail is approximately one kilometer long and features six interactive activity stations. At these stations, visitors can, for example, identify animal tracks and bird species, and build homes for forest creatures. Along the trail, there is also an art exhibition by artist Mia Huhtinen, designed especially for children, as well as bird sculptures by wood sculptor Timo Heikura.

From the hotel reception, you can purchase a Magic Forest Adventure Backpack, which includes a trail map for children, a magnifying glass, and a sticker task that supports learning. Price: €10.

The trail can also be explored independently and is initially open during snow-free seasons.

Our Friend Nature – Art Exhibition

Along the Koli Enchanted Forest nature trail, you’ll find the Our Friend Nature art exhibition by Joensuu-based artist and art therapy instructor Mia Huhtinen. The exhibition is especially designed for children.

Huhtinen’s works invite children to marvel, ask questions, and explore nature up close. Her art is imaginative and expressive, both in color and style. The pieces depict the magical and enchanting animals and characters of Koli’s nature, including Joensuu’s mascot animal Ralf the Great Crested Newt and Finland’s national bird Linnea the Whooper Swan.

The Our Friend Nature exhibition reminds us that nature is a living, communicative friend who deserves our attention, respect, and protection.

Artworks in the Exhibition:

  • Jesse the Hare
  • Fairies and Forest Mice
  • Linnea the Whooper Swan
  • Roosa the Brown Bear and her cubs Sulo and Siri
  • Ralf the Great Crested Newt and the fish of Water Lily Pond

Mia Huhtinen is an artist, entrepreneur, and solution-focused art therapy instructor from Joensuu, soon to graduate as a visual art therapist. She is a member of the Finnish Artists Association and the local art group Taideyhdistys Harha.
