Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna is a Green Key certified hotel. Green Key is based on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and includes requirements for reducing environmental impact, increasing social benefits, and supporting the local economy.

In the Vaakuna block’s heating system, waste heat is transferred back to the district heating network. Carbon-neutral district heat is used to heat the property.

The electricity used in Vaakuna block is produced from fully renewable energy sources (100% wind power).

In 2026 we started to use completely chemical-free products for room cleaning. We use self produced ozone water, which effectively breaks down and removes grease and organic dirt. Ozone water also helps maintain cleanliness without leaving harsh chemical residues on surfaces. We have also begun to place greater emphasis on eco-friendly cleaning practices in our restaurant areas. We use minimal amounts of detergents and have actively adopted biodegradable Z-water alongside ozone water. Z-water is fully biodegradable and leaves no chemical residues on surfaces.
