KPO's new Original Sokos Hotel Kokkola brings the city's stories into the hotel experience

The hotel opening in the centre of Kokkola in May 2027 will be named Original Sokos Hotel Kokkola, further strengthening the city's profile as a travel destination. Built and operated by Osuuskauppa KPO, the brand-new hotel combines the services of the Sokos Hotels chain, which emphasises local character, with Kokkola's history, culture and maritime urban environment. Rooms and event facilities can be booked starting 29 October 2026.

"Kokkola has a long history, a distinctive culture and a beautiful maritime environment, all of which deserve to become known more widely than they are today. The new hotel gives us a wonderful opportunity to introduce the city and its stories to more and more people, together with other local operators," says Jaki Silvennoinen, Hotel Manager of Original Sokos Hotel Kokkola.

An answer to Kokkola's evolving travel needs
In addition to domestic and international business travellers, the diverse event offering of Kokkola Areena brings new visitors to the city, and the hotel provides them with a comfortable setting. "The hotel, being built next to the railway station, is the third-largest investment in KPO's history. It will bring life to the entire city centre and strengthen the city's position as a travel destination. At the same time, the hotel is part of Osuuskauppa KPO's significant EUR 200 million investment package in the travel and hospitality sector in the Ostrobothnia regions," says Kim Biskop, CEO of Osuuskauppa KPO.

A new way to experience Kokkola

Kokkola's history and stories can be seen and felt in Original Sokos Hotel Kokkola, interpreted in a modern way. The hotel's look brings together Scandinavian design, natural materials and local influences. The colour palette of the interior draws its inspiration from the idyllic colour shades of the old town, Neristan.

Works by local artists add their own layer of Kokkola's story to the hotel's spaces. Details matter too: the large sailor dogs peeking out from the hotel's big windows refer to the city's maritime history and the mobile life of the sailors' homes of days gone by.

The spacious and bright street-level lobby with its restaurants invites you to step inside. The aim is to build the hotel into a meeting place that serves not only travellers but also Kokkola's residents, businesses and event guests.

This is what the new hotel offers

  • 219 rooms, including rooms with a sauna and suites
  • restaurant, lobby bar, lounge, coworking spaces
  • seven meeting and event spaces, for 1-180 people
  • sauna facilities on the hotel's top floor with views stretching across Kokkola
  • gym
  • energy efficient: e.g. 130 solar panels and versatile heat recovery systems
  • located in the immediate vicinity of the railway station, on the site of the former bus station
