Jumbo Library Opening Celebrations
Jumbo Library will be open from Thursday 15 October 2026 on weekdays from 9 am to 8 pm and at weekends from 11 am to 6 pm.

Thursday 15.10.
- 13-15:00 (non-stop) Badge-making workshop.
Place: Multi-purpose hall Neva.
- 17:00 Opening speeches.
Deputy Mayor Riikka Åstrand and Marjo Päivärinta, service officer at Jumbo Library. Place: Stage.
- 17.30 Eino Leino in words and music – troubadour Pasi Repo.
Place: Stage
- 18.15 Guest author Mariia Niskavaara.
An interview with the author of the acclaimed debut novel “Esteri, teurastaja”. Place: Stage.
- Poster exhibition by the library’s sponsor families.
You asked for it, we made it happen! The exhibition shows how library visitors took part in the design of Jumbo Library. A library member of staff will be on hand to talk about the library’s ‘sponsor families’ from 9.00–11.00 and 13.00–15.00. The poster exhibition will be on display in the multi-purpose hall Neva throughout the opening weekend.
Friday 16.10.
- 12.30–14.30 (non-stop) comics workshop.
Design your own comic character and create your own comic! Suitable for all ages, no prior booking required. The workshop will be led by art educator Kissa Koskinen from the Comics Centre.

- 16.00 Zone VD (Joona Leppälä).
How can an ordinary young person end up pursuing a completely extraordinary career? And how can you discover your own interests and find the courage to pursue them? Joona Leppälä, better known on YouTube as ZoneVD, talks about his own unique career path, its stages, successes and surprises.

- 18.00 and 18.30 A small group from the mixed choir Unreality
The choir performs familiar songs from TV series, films and animations. Unreality is a mixed choir dedicated to soundtrack music.

Saturday 17.10.
- 12-13.00 Meet Super Furball!
The superhero, familiar from Paula Noronen’s children’s books and the big screen, makes brief appearances in the library and is therefore not present all the time.
- 14.00 Teater Tapir. A poetry variety show for children.
What do potatoes dream of? ‘Röjsfasoner’ is a colourful theatre show featuring poems by, amongst others, Stella Parland, Peter Sandelin, Ulf Stark and Annika Sandelin. Come and listen at Jumbo in swedish!
The show lasts about 30 minutes and is best suited to children aged around 5–9. Place: Multi-purpose hall Neva.
- 16.00 Vaaralliset naiset (Dangerous Women) – a storytelling session for adults.
Vaaralliset naiset (Dangerous Women) – that is, the thriller writers Pauliina Susi, Virpi Hämeen-Anttila, Ansu Kivekäs and Tiina Raevaara – will read extracts from their books, interview one another and discuss with the audience.

Sunday 18.10.
- 12-13.00 Meet Super Furball!

- 14.00 Guest authors: Ville Lähde and Tere Vadén.
The authors will discuss themes from their new book, 12 käsitettä maailmasta – Käsikirja etenevän ympäristökriisin aikakaudelle (12 Concepts of the World – A Handbook for the Age of the Advancing Environmental Crisis).

- Book Tip Concerts
Come and explore the world of books and musical instruments! Between book recommendations, the audience gets to create soundscapes and musical accompaniments to the books. Book tip concerts will be held in the multi-purpose hall Neva, three in a row as follows:
3.30 pm: For 0–4-year-olds
4.20 pm for 5–8-year-olds
5.10 pm for 9–12-year-olds
The hall has a capacity of 80 people.
