Break Sokos Hotel Ruka – Your Adventure Base in the Heart of Kuusamo
Kuusamo's tourism industry will receive a significant boost as Osuuskauppa Arina builds a new kind of high-quality experience hotel, restaurant, and café complex in Ruka. Hotel accommodation at Break Sokos Hotel Ruka will be available for booking in spring 2027.
The investment supports the vitality goals of the center and increases the appeal of Ruka-Kuusamo as an international tourist destination. Construction began in autumn 2025, and the opening is planned for the winter season 2027-2028.
The facade materials draw inspiration from the Kiutaköngäs rock formation, and the building's form is recognizable while blending into the surrounding landscape. The hotel has two floors on the Ruka village side and seven floors on the downhill side, one of which is an underground parking level. The spaces have been designed to be functional and easily accessible throughout.
The hotel includes:

Kuusamo's nature and a calming atmosphere
The hotel's interior design emphasizes natural and soft surfaces, scents, soundscape and the play of sunlight, which together create a calming and inspiring atmosphere. The material choices and color scheme reflect Kuusamo's nature, and the overall design is fresh and bright – exactly what the nature town of Kuusamo deserves.
The value of the investment is approximately 37 million euros, and its employment impact is 250 person-years during the construction period. Once completed, the hotel will employ 50 people year-round and over 100 during the peak season. The architectural design is by PAVE Arkkitehdit from Oulu and the interior design by Vertti & Co. The project is being implemented in cooperation with Hartela Oy and ARE Oy. The Kuusamo City Council has approved the detailed plan, and cooperation with the city has been close and smooth.
Break Sokos Hotel Ruka will be an experiential base for both locals and visitors, where authenticity and nature are present. The hotel offers experiences that engage all senses, and easy, quick service, responding to Kuusamo's growing tourism needs by inviting visitors close to the center – right where everything happens.
