This investment supports the vitality goals of the centre and enhances Ruka–Kuusamo’s appeal as an international travel destination. Construction began in Autumn 2025, with the opening planned for the Winter season 2027–2028.

The façade materials draw inspiration from the Kiutaköngäs rock formations, and the building’s design is both distinctive and harmoniously integrated into the surrounding landscape. The hotel will have two floors on the Ruka village side and seven floors on the lower slope, including one underground level for parking. All spaces have been designed to be functional and easily accessible.

The hotel will feature:

• 217 rooms, some with saunas and accessible facilities
• Trattoria restaurant and Coffee House café
• Meeting facilities for 100 people, guest saunas, and a gym
• Parking spaces and electric vehicle charging points
• The tranquillity and beauty of Kuusamo’s nature

The interior design emphasises natural and soft surfaces, scents, soundscapes, and the play of sunlight, creating a calming and inspiring atmosphere. Material choices and colour schemes reflect Kuusamo’s nature, resulting in a fresh and bright environment – just what the nature city of Kuusamo deserves.

The investment is valued at approximately €37 million and will generate 250 person-years of employment during construction. Once completed, the hotel will employ 50 people year-round and over 100 during peak seasons. Architectural design is by Oulu-based PAVE Architects, with interiors by Vertti & Co. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Hartela Oy and ARE Oy. Kuusamo City Council has approved the zoning plan, and cooperation with the city has been close and smooth.

Break Sokos Hotel Ruka will be an experiential base for both locals and visitors, where authenticity and nature are ever-present. The hotel offers multi-sensory experiences and easy, fast service, meeting Kuusamo’s growing tourism needs and inviting guests to the very heart of the action.
