Olavinlinna Castle was founded in 1475 by Knight Erik Axelsson Tott, who was the stadtholder of Vyborg. The location for the castle was chosen with its defence in mind; the steep rocky island rises from the fast-flowing waters at the meeting point of two waterways making it difficult for the enemy to approach the castle.

Hotel Tott has been named after Erik Axelsson Tott, but the place for the hotel was chosen with tourists in mind: this genuine summer hub of Savonlinna close to the passenger harbour is easy to reach, and we wish tourists from all over the world a warm welcome!
