Sustainable Travel Finland

Visit Finland has awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label to Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Pori as a recognition of its valuable and long-term efforts toward sustainable tourism.

Sustainable Travel Finland is a national sustainable tourism program managed by Visit Finland. It takes into account ecological, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability. Businesses awarded the label meet a set of criteria based on these values.

At Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Pori, sustainability is part of our everyday operations. Here are just a few examples of how we put it into practice:

  • We use waterless cleaning methods in our rooms
  • We aim to minimize paper printing
  • We offer complimentary bicycles for guests
  • We’ve increased the size of breakfast product orders to reduce packaging waste
  • Our saunas use reusable mugs instead of disposable cups
  • Our meeting catering features only Finnish products—from coffee and oat milk to chocolates—and includes local superfoods like sea buckthorn

Applying for the Sustainable Travel Finland label was a natural continuation of our long-standing commitment to environmentally conscious operations. The wellbeing of people, nature, and our home region of Satakunta is the foundation of everything we do at Satakunnan Osuuskauppa.

“The application process for the Sustainable Travel Finland label is comprehensive and considers many aspects of our environment. At the same time, it provides our hotel with clear guidelines for meeting the label’s criteria,” says Hotel Manager Jussi Lampinen.

“This recognition is an important sign that we’re on the right path—together with our staff and guests. Our team is encouraged to act sustainably every day, and new employees are regularly trained. Our goal is to make sustainability visible through concrete actions and everyday practices.”
