Expansion of Vaakuna Pori

The planning for the expansion of Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Pori is starting.
Satakunnan Osuuskauppa is initiating the planning phase for the expansion project of Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Pori. The goal is to meet the city’s growing accommodation demand and to strengthen Pori’s position as an attractive event and tourism city.
The expansion would add approximately 50 new rooms and 120 beds to the current 137 hotel rooms, with completion scheduled for spring 2027. The new rooms will be designed as an extension to the recently renovated rooms at Gallen-Kallelankatu 8.
– Tourism demand in Pori has grown steadily, and especially during major events, hotels fill up quickly. With the expansion of Vaakuna, Satakunnan Osuuskauppa supports the growing tourism in Satakunta and the vitality of the region. Events, cultural and nature attractions draw leisure travelers to Pori from all over Finland, while significant industrial investments in the area increase business travel. Thanks to the expansion, we will be able to serve both customer groups even better, says Johanna Väätäinen, Director of Travel, Hospitality, and Mobility at Satakunnan Osuuskauppa.
In addition to the expansion, plans for the coming years include renewing the hotel’s meeting facilities and technology, as well as updating the surfaces and textiles of the main building’s rooms.
– Vaakuna wants to remain the number one hotel in Pori, and it is important for us to offer guests comfortable and functional facilities. In the renewal of meeting facilities, we will focus on a high-quality meeting experience – both on-site and with remote and hybrid options. In practice, this means comfortable, versatile spaces, functional technology, and first-class service, says Hotel Manager Jussi Lampinen.
