Osuuskauppa Maakunta is investing in the vitality of Kajaani city centre by expanding Original Sokos Hotel Valjus.

The project involves constructing a four-storey new building at Kauppakatu 22 as an extension to the current hotel located at Kauppakatu 20. The extension will include the following facilities:

• 33 new air-conditioned hotel rooms, increasing the total capacity from the current 97 rooms to 130 rooms.

• Parking spaces on two levels, some equipped with electric charging points.

• Commercial space at street level.

• A connecting corridor to the existing hotel building across Koivukoskenkatu.

Construction work on the Original Sokos Hotel Valjus extension has begun with preparatory work in early June, following the demolition of the old building on the site. The target completion date for the extension is summer 2027. The project is being carried out as a design-build contract by local contractor Rakennusliike Halonen Oy. Architectural design has been provided by Arkkitehtipalvelu Oy and interior design by Franz Design Oy.

"Since the construction work is focused on the plot next to the current hotel building on the other side of the street, disruption to current hotel and restaurant operations during construction will be less than with a typical hotel extension," notes Property Manager Henri Vornanen of Osuuskauppa Maakunta regarding the construction project.
