Things to do and see in Helsinki
City bikes
City bikes are a popular way to move around Helsinki. There are enough paths and things to see: Helsinki's cycling path network is more than 1,200 kilometres long and there are as many as 460 city bike stations. So jump on a bike and explore the city! The bike can be returned to any city bike station at the end of the ride.

Market coffee at Hakaniementori
Hakaniementori, which opened in 1897, offers the most authentic Helsinki atmosphere. There are traditional market delicacies and there are usually market cafés on site. Hakaniemi Farmers Market happens on the first Sunday of every month from 10 am to 4 pm. You should also visit the adjacent Hakaniemi Market Hall.

Design Museum
The internationally distinguished Design Museum is a national museum specialising in Finnish design. The Museum's collection tells the history of the Finnish art industry and presents key designers, manufacturers and the changes in the Finnish way of life from the past to modern times. In addition, the Museum has various exhibitions, guided tours and workshops.
The Design Museum is in Kaartinkaupunki, a short walk from central Helsinki. The Design Museum is open in the summer from Monday to Sunday between 11 am and 6 pm. Check the opening hours on the Museum's website.
Suomenlinna or Lonna for a summer day
The Suomenlinna sea fortress is a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Helsinki archipelago. It is a popular excursion destination for both locals and tourists. In addition to the defensive fortress, the area has museums, guided tours, restaurants and events throughout the summer.
Suomenlinna faces Helsinki and can be easily reached all year round by HSL ferry from Kauppatori. The journey takes only 15 minutes. And if you've already seen Suomenlinna, a good alternative is Lonna, which is opposite the Suomenlinna ferry terminal. Read more!
