Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna in Pori, then Hotelli Satakunta, opened its doors for customers on 15 March 1939. Starting with 30 rooms, the subsequent major changes over the years have increased the number of rooms to 137.
The famous Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela was born on 26 April 1865 in a house situated where the hotel now stands. In his honour, the meeting room next to the hotel restaurant was named Akseli Gallen-Kallela room. Originally hung in this room, the 39 gravures signed by the artist today adorn the walls of the head office of Satakunnan Osuuskauppa cooperative.
Today this conference room is part of Restaurant Satakunta.
Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna in Pori celebrates and endeavours to honour its long history in the hotel business in Satakunta.
