Green Key
Our hotel is committed to taking into account the wellbeing of the environment. As a proof of this Original Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi in Kuopio has been granted the Green Key symbol. Green Key is an international environment symbol which promotes sustainable travelling. Following environment certified hotels travellers have even better chances to make choices that are sustainable regarding the environment as well as reducing their own carbon footprint.
Of our staff Emmi has been chosen to be our Green Key ambassador. Emmi helps both our guests as well as our staff in matters related to the environment. Emmi loves being in nature and she encapsulates the importance of green values with the words of Snufkin from the Moomins:
"It would be terrible if the world fell apart. It is so beautiful."
"Here in Puikkari both the staff and our hotel guests can take care of the environment with daily choices and small deeds. While staying with us our guests can in many ways make important choices for the wellbeing of the environment: choose from our menus vegetarian options instead of meat, use the same towel several days, sort their trash with the help of the sorting trashcans found in the rooms and by taking a suitably sized portion at breakfast. Even as small a thing as switching off unnecessary lights when leaving the room is an important act for the environment. Our restaurant's staff also recommends choosing organic and regional delicacies from our menu." Emmi tips.
"The Puikkari staff across the hotel strives towards encouraging our guests to being environmentally friendly. From our reception you can borrow bikes free of charge from spring till autumn. During the summer we also collaborate with a local bike taxi company by which we want to encourage our guests towards environmentally friendly transport. Our reception's staff warmly recommends visiting the nearby parks and nature attractions. During winter we recommend our guests enjoy the fascinating view over the frozen Kallavesi by skiing or ice skating – just five minutes away from our hotel."
