Enjoy the Capital of Culture Together with the Estonian National Opera
When people are asked to spontaneously name one cultural establishment in Estonia then most votes would undoubtedly go to the Estonian National Opera. In 2011, Tallinn will be bearing the title of the Capital of Culture and the Estonian National Opera will be one of its calling cards.
We regard our hotel as one of the city’s calling cards as well and thus find it only logical that we decided to enter into negotiations with the Opera as a result of which we reached an agreement in which we decided to engage in even more intense co-operation.
Sokos Hotel Viru will be thesponsor and accommodation partner of the Estonian National Opera forthe next three years. Our customers include numerous opera-lovers towhom we have always offered special opera packages. At the end of May, the repertoire of the Opera for the spring season of 2011 will be introduced to the public and we will thus be able to offer you ourshare in next year’s opera experiences in the nearest future as well.
For instance, the programme of Tallinn 2011 includes the playing of Wagner’s opera Parsifal that was first performed in 1882. This operathat was Wagner’s last and is considered one of the most complicatedpieces of work in the history of opera music is a serious challenge forany opera theatre in the world and is therefore played very rarely onglobal opera stages. During the year of the Capital of Culture the Estonian National Opera will perform this spectacular piece of work atthe post-industrial moulding workshop of the Noblessner ship factorysituated right by the sea.
This piece that combines myths of the Middle Ages and modern music will be staged by Nicola Raab, one of the brightest young stars among modern-day European opera stage directors. The opera will be conducted by Arvo Volmer, the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Estonian National Opera.Opera-goers will be accommodated and guided to the correct location by Sokos Hotel Viru.
